How We Are Organised

  • The Committee

MHTMA is run by a committee of up to 12 members elected at the AGM. Committee members are volunteers, receiving travel expenses but no payment for their time or work. We employ a part-time administrator Zoe Payne who has specific responsibility for Membership and related matters. Zoe is not an appointed Tribunal member but you can meet Zoe at our Annual Conference and AGM.

The MHTMA committee members are all Mental Health Tribunal members. This means that they are in contact with other members at hearings and training days, so they encounter and hear about issues of concern which can be taken up by MHTMA.

    Our current committee is:

    • Joint Chair – Sue Green and Carolyn Taylor
    • Vice Chair – Neil Boast
    • Secretary – Simon Dixey
    • Treasurer – Della Fallon
    • Members – Angela Barney, Sarah Barrington-Kendall, Anne Jasper, Julia Krish, Pippa North, Clifford Piarroux and Margaret Stevenson

Much of the work is however undertaken by email between meetings. Members who might be interested in being nominated for the Executive are welcome to attend a meeting as an observer.

  • Committee meetings

Committee meetings are held four times a year to plan and discuss issues raised by the membership, resulting in surveys and projects we think we can progress. In addition we hold meetings with the Chamber President, Deputy Chamber President and Senior Administration Managers, together with other colleagues as appropriate twice a year, when we are able to raise issues brought up by members.

  • Working groups and co-opted members

From time to time, the exec may invite other members to contribute to a working group on a co-opted basis; or, if you have particular knowledge on a topic that is being examined, feel free to offer your input to the exec.
